Failing for Jesus

Think you might know mission: Think again!

Synopsis

Trench warfare in the mission field. What is it like to raise the dead, heal the sick and drive demons out? Chris Grummitt was plunged into what seemed a lonely nightmare of a ministry but the simplicity of his new found faith carried him up to dizzy heights, which ultimately led to jealousies, suspicion and even worse; all for upsetting the status quo. The successes of his ministry were spectacular but so were the failings which caused great heartache and near depression. In this book Chris asks the questions. ‘Do we all fail for Jesus in some way or another and if so why?’ In doing so he asks us to re-evaluate our own response to the Grand Commission and this book a must read for anyone contemplating service in the missionary field, either at home or in some far flung land.

Prologue

The reasons

This extraordinary tale of miracles and mayhem in the front line trenches of spiritual warfare in Africa was naively laid down in 2006 and has been subjected to a rewrite and important update, which underscores both the cost and successes of such a ministry.

The book has only one purpose and that is to encourage those who may consider that there is more to Christian discipleship than attending Church and a house-group, but there is warning for those who may be complacent. A thorough read of the New Testament will confirm this warning to be valid, as there appears to be very little understanding within the church as to what constitutes personal mission.  However, there is no attempt to suggest that a bag should be packed and a ticket booked to enter the fray in some foreign field. God may require this, but the truth is if discipleship is declared, and the name of Jesus is on the lips of the believer, then the mission field is all around. The Bible is quite clear on what will happen when we have to stand before our Lord and give an account and all quotations supporting this are taken from the NIV version for simplicity.

Jesus teaches us what to expect will happen if we are ignorant. If He, by grace, gives us salvation and living with him as co-heirs, then we are not meant to belittle or ignore it.
