About the Author.

Born in 1943, as a tiny remnant of the Raj in Bangalore, the family later travelled to England in unusual circumstances. From the height of luxury it plunged into penury, where I punched holes in leather after my primary school day. This toughened me and determined me to seek adventure in the wake of other male members of the family.  After a brief flourish with the army, the desire to work my way around the world resulted in visiting over eighty countries, being domiciled in seven with short spells in five more. The wonder, experience and thrill of these adventures shall fill many and hour of recall in my rocking chair, for I have been arrested in Syria, interrogated in Jordan, mobbed in Pakistan and India, shot at and ‘shot down’ in Beirut, captured in Senegal, and briefly imprisoned elsewhere in ‘Africa. I have seen many wonderful and terrifying sights, but the overriding joy has been the discovery that people are the same all over the world. The same problems and joys beset them but the difference is in how they react according to their culture; the fascinating part that cannot fail to broaden mind and heart. The important revelation is that I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ who, in the space of a few minutes, turned my life upside down in 1986. I have lived a life of miracles, bearing out the truth of the Bible, but at tremendous cost. To be a disciplined Christian is not a bed of roses, far from it, but as a fulfilment, purpose, hope and promise, there is no other life as exciting, which is why I have put ‘pen to paper’.
